The Olympic substation in Krasnaya Polyana will be built in October 2008.
Substation "Poselkovaya", which will become the main supply center for Olympic facilities in Krasnaya Polyana, will be put into operation in October 2008. This was announced today by Fedor Dyakov, Director General of Trunk Electric Networks of the South, at the ceremony to begin the construction of the substation building.
According to him, the construction of a 220 kV substation will provide reliable power supply to the Olympic infrastructure, including the Rosa Khutor mountain ski center, the new terminal of Sochi International Airport, a 16,000-seat ski complex and a bobsleigh track.
Together with the construction of the substation, work is underway to build the 220 kV Psou-Poselkovaya line. The construction of these energy facilities began in April 2007 as part of the federal target program for the development of Sochi, as a mountain-climatic resort. Federal Grid Company allocates about 2.9 billion rubles for the construction of lines and substations. The length of the transmission line, as Dyakov explained, will be 51.8 km. It had to be lengthened in order to circumvent dangerous landslides in the mountains, as well as young tea and chestnut plantations.
“This is the first substation of a new generation that is being built in the Sochi region,” Dyakov emphasized. “During construction, we will use new technologies that will prevent the formation of ice on the line and will increase the reliability of the energy supply in this region.” A temporary substation is already operating in Krasnaya Polyana, which will become a power center for the construction of Olympic facilities.
