The new road in Adygea may jeopardize the safety of ancient burial mounds.December 6, 2017
Specialists of the Department for the Use and Protection of Cultural Heritage Sites and the Maykop Prosecutor's Office of the City of Maikop were able to identify land works in the suburban part of the capital of the republic that could pose a certain threat to the archaeological heritage, said Rustem Tsipinov, head of the department.
Regarding violations, it became known during the raid in the immediate vicinity of such a farm as Gaverdovsky. From the point of view of management specialists and regional archaeologists, in those areas that were previously provided for individual construction, there are mounds and burial grounds of antiquity, supposedly related to the Meotian culture and defined by the 4th century BC.
According to Tsipinov, in the 80s of the last century, a number of burial grounds were excavated in these places, and the exhibits found in these places are currently located in the Adyghe national museum. Here they have already begun to lay the road, and after the removal of an insignificant land layer for the construction of streets of a new residential neighborhood, slabs of stone burial sites began to appear.
“We are currently awaiting the results of the ongoing examination. It is she who should really demonstrate the possibility of the presence of archaeological sites and the alleged damage, ”said Tsipinov. The Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic, together with the prosecutor's office, proceeded to the inspection.
