The implementation of the Jeep Grand Cherokee 2017 is postponed for at least a year.Oleg Skrinnik
The famous Jeep concern leaves no hope of actively using the popular Hellcat engine, which today is the most powerful V8 in the history of the American car industry, in its updates. Fresh model Grand Cherokee will be equipped with this power unit, but the start of its sales, at the moment, is a big question.
American manufacturer Jeep has begun road testing of the prototype of an improved SUV Grand Cherokee. On the basis of the photospies received by photospies, it can be said that the car will acquire small innovations in terms of exterior design and will soon enter the markets.
The current generation of this model, with minor upgrades, has been sold since 2010. The platform from the famous Mercedes-Benz ML was taken as the basis for the American SUV.
The extreme configuration of a smart SUV will be called the Trackhawk. This name was patented last year by the manufacturer Chrysler in the form of consoles for the “top-end” generation of Jeep and will seriously compete with another sub-brand of the company Hellcat from Dodge.
Making exterior and interior
Photographs show that this car has received a minimum of changes, which boil down to an improved front bumper, new front optics and a grille.
The rest of the body was not hidden camouflage, hence the conclusion - the developers and designers of the company decided not to make any changes, leaving everything as is.
The inside of the car was equipped with new seats that have leather and suede upholstery with a bright red seam. In the cabin there is a large number of decorative elements, decorated with bronze and black piano lacquer.
A modified entertainment and information complex in addition to standard systems and functions will notify the driver with information about the position of the suspension, wheels and the selected mode.
Technical features of the novelty
The novelty will be extreme not only in its name, but also in its power indicators: compressor V8, with a capacity of 6.5 liters, generating 707 hp. - this, unfortunately, is all that is currently known about him.
It should be noted that the power unit will be taken from the Dodge Chalenger SRT Hellcat, but the drive in the new crossover will not be off-road - only for one wheel pair.
I would like to remind that the modification of the Grand Cherokee SRT8 is also a “charged” variation of an off-road car and comes with a 468-horsepower 6.4-liter V8 engine that can accelerate the car to 100 km / h in 4.7 seconds, and the peak speed is limited to 255 km / h
As already mentioned, the start of production of this car is scheduled for next year and, apparently, the Grand Cherokee Trackhawk will be included in the list of the most powerful and high-speed off-road vehicles on the entire planet.
Of course, the price of the new model from the company Jeep is not yet known, and in the domestic market the Grand Cherokee SRT8 is offered for 5,400,000 rubles.
The novelty will remain on the conveyor
The head of the iconic American off-road car manufacturer Mike Manley shared unpleasant information, which says that the implementation of the new flagship version is postponed at least one year in advance. If earlier the manufacturer promised to present this car in the second half of next year, now the date is postponed to the end of 2018 or the beginning of 2019.
The reason for this is the strong desire of management and the company's engineers to rethink their attitude to the new platform, which the new model should have shared with the future Grand Wrangler.Earlier, Sergio Marchionne, director of the concern Fiat Chrysler Automobiles, said that Jeep developers will have to “completely change their views” with the new Grand Cherokee.
The executive director of Jeep also noted that the production of the new generation Wrangler is proceeding steadily, according to the established schedule. Presumably, the official presentation of this SUV will be held in early 2017.
The company's CEO also noted that worldwide sales of Jeep models increased by 20 percent last year. The manufacturer plans to sell 1,200,000 cars this year, and when fresh models of Grand Wagoneer, Grand Cherokee and Wrangler are on sale, sales will increase to 1,900,000 vehicles.
