Postcards for Ecumenical Parent Meatland Week
Good day! In the Orthodox calendar there are special days for all-church commemoration of the dead. These days are called parent Saturdays, they were established in the first millennium. Today, Universal parental meat saturday is celebrated. There are several parents Saturdays in the year: Saturdays before the meat week and before the holiday of the Trinity (Pentecost) - they are called Universal parental Saturdays.
In devoting the Week to meat predestination of the last Last Judgment of Christ, the Church, in view of this court, established a petition not only for living members, but also for all those who died of all ages, in piety of those who lived, of all clans, ranks and states, especially for those who died a sudden death. “The Holy Fathers legitimized to commemorate all the dead for the following reason. Many very often die an unnatural death, for example: while wandering in the seas, in impassable mountains, in ravines and precipices; happens to die from hunger, fire, war, freeze. And who will list (list) all genera and species of unintentional and unforeseen death? And all those are deprived of legalized psalmopenia and funeral prayers. That is why the holy fathers, moved by humanity, established, based on the apostolic teaching, to perform this common, universal commemoration so that no one, whenever, no matter where and no matter how he ended earthly life, would not lose the prayers of the Church. ” The solemn all-church commemoration of the departed this Saturday (as well as Holy Trinity Saturday) brings great benefit and help to our deceased fathers and brethren and at the same time serves as an expression of the fullness of the church life we live in.
