In which corner is the icon?
Not every modern person knows whybelievers put icons in the house, and also in what corner the icon is in a place of honor. If you decide to live according to Orthodox canons, feel the need for faith in your life, then first of all you need to purchase and sanctify the icon. It is sanctification that allows the icon to get in touch with its original image (the image of the face).
Even in ancient Russia, the house had a specialthe place where the icons were placed. The place in which the icons of the head of the families hang, was determined by the eastern direction and diagonally from the furnace. An obligatory condition was that the corner where the icons were placed should be located in the space between the side and front walls of the house. Usually, it was the far right corner of the room. This place was called "red" or "front corner". This space was the most illuminated in the house, because the corner-forming walls had windows.
Now it's hard to say what angle the icon is put in. Many do not allow room layout or interior elements. Therefore, people have an icon so that its position is convenient to prayerful address to it. The iconostasis must be above the level of the eyes, the image is not obscured and is clearly visible, so there was always an opportunity to attach it to it (there should be no obstructions in the form of a table, chest and similar things).
Given the traditions of Orthodoxy, icons should not be hung. They need to be placed on a special shelf or in a closed kiot (sometimes multi-tiered).
The icon in the house should be set so that on itThe first person to pay attention was the person entering the room. Thus, a Christian first honors the Heavenly King, and then the masters of the house. As a rule, the "Red Corner" in the house is considered an analogue of the church altar.
