  • If you chose a semicircular shape of the gutter, then you can give the desired bend to the metal strip with the help of a piece of pipe - put a metal plate on the pipe and bend it to the shape of this pipe;
  • the edges of the resulting gutter must be bent, this will give the gutter the necessary rigidity;
  • if desired, it is even possible to fix the edges of the folded strip with transverse straps in order to stabilize the shape;
  • rectangular gutters are made with a special bending machine or simply a corner.

As for the height of the gutter walls, the closer the gutter is to the ground, the higher these walls should be. Otherwise, the water falling from a great height will simply spill out.

What tools will need for installation?

Starting installation of a drain, it is necessary to get the following tools:

  • scissors for metal;
  • ticks;
  • mandrels;
  • flaring

Assembly work

Gutter MountingNow we proceed to the most crucial stage in the construction of a roof drain - we begin the installation. In addition to the manufactured gutters, you should prepare:

  • drain pipes;
  • funnels into which water will fall;
  • brackets to fix the system;
  • caps;
  • fittings.

The brackets are required to secure the gutters. The optimal distance between them is 50 centimeters. Starting the installation of the gutter, first of all, install the first and the last bracket, so you will immediately receive the required slope, you will not have to redo it later.

Once the first and last bracket is installed, pull the cord between them. This cord will serve as a guide: you need to install intermediate brackets over it.

It is worth noting that you do not need to overdo it with the slope of the chute. It will be correct to make a slope that does not exceed 5 mm per 1 m of gutter. The absence of a slope as such will lead to the fact that rain and melt water will not have time to drain into the drain pipes, with the result that its surplus will pour out through the edges of the gutter.Consider these features, doing gutters with your own hands.

If you have to install a long gutter, which is assembled from several, then before installing it with your own hands, you need to connect all its parts with rivets before lifting to the edge of the roof, and then seal the seam with sealant. At such a height, correctly and securely connecting parts of the gutter will be difficult.

To connect the parts of the drain pipes, erecting a drain with your own hands, use clamps. When installing the pipes, remember that they must be inserted into each other, and the overlap should be at least 2 cm. The installation of pipes on the wall is also carried out using clamps. Remember that the pipe should be strictly vertical.

To get a flat vertical, install the pipe in the following way:

  • install the upper clamp;
  • fix the plummet on it.

The drain device requires connecting pipes with hose clips strictly in the direction of water running off.

So, the gutters are fixed, connected to the drain pipes.The pipes are securely attached to the wall, and all the seams are sealed, which means that the installation is completed, the drain is ready with your own hands, and the building is reliably protected from the negative effects of storm and melt water.
