When choosing a heater option for a garage that you can do yourself, many are guided by two parameters:

  2. The device should have a simple design, devoid of complex parts and elements.
  3. Operation of the device should be carried out at a minimum financial cost.

All these requirements are met by the three options described below homemade heaters that work from different sources of energy: gas, solid fuel and electricity.

The only disadvantage of such a gas heater is the need to ensure adequate ventilation.

Preparation of materials and components

To make a gas heater in the garage, you must prepare in advance:

  • burner with valve;
  • tin sheet;
  • scissors for metal;
  • drill with a thin drill;
  • rivets;
  • klepochnik.

For the manufacture of the lattice will require a cut of fine-mesh metallic mesh. Well, if you have a conventional wire sieve from the colander at hand, it will serve as a protective grid.

A set of necessary materials
The main element of the device is a gas cartridge collet filled with a capacity of 450 milliliters used for filling lighters.

Collet cylinders are convenient because when using them you can not immediately consume all the contents. The presence of overlapping valves allows the use of devices repeatedly.

If desired, the heating design can be made on the basis of not only disposable cans used for filling lighters, but also using a small refilled cylinder.

Cutting blanks and assembling structures

In the manufacture of construction, the first thing is to fix the heater to the burner.

Mesh assembly
The selected household sieve of the appropriate diameter is applied to the galvanized sheet and outlined along the contour with a marker.

In the direction of the four sides of the pre-applied zinc-coated sheet, four rectangular tabs are drawn. One of the ears should be made twice as long as the others. On the outlined contour cut blanks, trying to make smooth, devoid of burrs cuts.

The burner with bolts screwed to the cut tin billet. The ears located on the four sides of the workpiece are folded in the opposite direction and are used to fix the strainer.

Type of assembled structure
The strainer attached with tin lug ears has a dome shape, thanks to which it will dissipate heat perfectly to the sides.

To attach the second protective grid, take another piece of sheet tin and cut out of it exactly the same size circle.Attached to the workpiece are elongated ears, which are necessary for fixing the mesh.

Departing from the edge of the circle in half a centimeter, 10 holes are drilled along the circumference. A strip is cut out of the cut of a fine-meshed metal mesh, the length of which corresponds to the diameter of the cut out tin.

Mesh cylinder assembly
The tabs located on four sides are folded and used for fixing the wide side of a fine-meshed mesh strip, the second blank is fixed on the opposite side.

The curved ears of tin billets of a round shape are fixed to opposite sides of the mesh strip with the help of a riveter and rivets. When assembled, it should be a cylinder with mesh walls and tin ends. The design, which includes two grids, is advantageous in that it has an increased heating surface and is equipped with additional protection.

At the final stage, it remains only to turn on the gas water heater and check its operability. The heat produced by this small device will be enough to warm a small room or garage.

Potbelly stove from the used cylinder

Potbelly stoves, which were popular a hundred years ago, still do not give up their positions today, being the main source of heat in garages and utility rooms. And their main advantage is that they can work not only on wood, but also on everything that burns.

The minimum wall thickness of such structures should be 2-3 mm, but still the best option - 5 cm, so you can use any type of fuel. If we compare the models of horizontal and vertical execution, the first win in terms of ease of loading logs.

Vertical design

The simplest version of the manufacture of potbelly stoves involves the use of a gas cylinder: the casing of the heating structure is ready, it remains only to equip the compartments for laying the fuel and ash pan. The height of the cylinder is about 850 mm, the girth diameter is 300 mm, and a sufficient wall thickness allows the use of any type of fuel.

To build a vertically mounted design, the balloon is divided into two unequal parts by volume:

  • the top one - occupies 2/3 of the structure and acts as a receiving chamber for laying firewood;
  • the lower one takes up 1/3 of the structure and serves to collect the ash.

For the manufacture of stoves in the cylinder wall to the size of each of the two sections cut out the holes for the arrangement of doors. The doors themselves can be constructed from a cut-out piece of a balloon wall or cut from sheet metal.

At the border between the upper and lower compartments, grate mounts are mounted. But since the finished cast iron grate of suitable size is difficult to find, thick bars are used to make it.

In the upper part of the cylinder a hole is cut out for a chimney with a diameter of at least 150 mm. This element can be welded from the cut sheet metal. The main thing is that the diameter of the pipe obtained should correspond to the size of the chimney in order to simplify the joining process.

The doors are fitted with locks and attached to the body by welding. If desired, loops can be made from several links of a thick steel chain.

Since the potbelly stove is not initially classified as a hermetic heating installation, there is no need to use seals

In order to block the gap formed around the perimeter of the doors, it is better to weld a small rim from the outside along the perimeter of the blanks - a strip of metal 1.5-2 cm wide.

Model with a horizontal body

When the case is horizontal, the ash collection compartment is welded to the bottom of the structure. The main compartment is designed to bookmark the fuel and unload the burned coal. It is equipped with a chimney nozzle with a diameter of 10 cm.

Where to place the ash pan
A compartment for collecting ashes is fashionable to be built from a suitable channel size or to be welded to a specified size from a section of steel sheet.

In the side wall of the case a hole is made for the installation of the furnace door. Its size should not exceed the diameter of the chimney. The door itself is fitted with a latch and installed on the hinges.

In the wall of the housing, which will be directed downwards, holes are made. They will function as a grate.

To improve the heat transfer of the hot stove, the chimney can be made in the form of an elongated broken structure. The main thing in arranging such a chimney - to avoid horizontal sections. Some masters to improve the heating of the building around the cylinders are constructed covers made of sheet metal.

But do not forget that the stove carries a potential danger. And because the room where it will be installed should be periodically aired.

Manufacturing of a desktop fan heater

This type of device is a heater and fan in one person. If desired, it can be used as an improvised air conditioner.

The heater in the wooden case
The heater placed in the device case will provide heat during the cold season, and the computer cooler placed there will create a pleasant breeze in the hot months.

This type of heater is convenient in that it allows you to adjust the heating temperature and the speed of rotation of the cooler.

Selection of necessary materials

To create a fan heater you will need the following materials:

  • rheostat;
  • switch;
  • power connector;
  • electrical wire;
  • LED Strip Light;
  • computer cooler for 12 volts;
  • three-ampere power source at 12 volts;

To fix the heating element, you will also need two ten-centimeter rods of copper wiring with a cross-section of 1.5 sq. Mm.

Cutting blanks for the body
The case of the device will be made of wooden blanks with a thickness of 9 mm, and the supporting legs - from the sticks of the same material with a diameter of 12 mm

From the tools you need to prepare:

  • jigsaw;
  • punch or drill;
  • soldering iron;
  • hole saw;
  • glue for woodwork;
  • “Moment” or superglue;

To clean wooden blanks, eliminating along the edges of the burrs, you will also need fine-grained sandpaper.

Assembly of housing parts

The future heater will have a cube shape. Therefore, for its manufacture it is necessary to cut out from wooden planks 9 mm thick:

  • two square billets measuring 12x12 cm;
  • 3 details in the size 10,2х10,2 cm;
  • two rectangular blanks 12x10, 2 cm;
  • four small rectangles measuring 1x1.5 cm

For the manufacture of the legs of the construction of wooden sticks D12 mm sawn into 2 workpieces 3 cm long each.

Holes for blowing heat
So that the generated heat freely goes beyond the heater, in square billets holes are drilled with a diameter of 8-10 mm

To simplify your task, make paper patterns, the dimensions of which correspond to the dimensions of the workpieces 12x12 cm. The marking of the location of the holes is applied directly to the patterns. They are applied to each side and drilled through.

In the workpiece 10.2x10.2 cm, maintaining a distance of 2.5 cm from the edge, make a hole D7 mm. On the second same blank, two same holes are made, maintaining a distance between them of 2.5 cm. In the third blank 10.2x10.2 cm, a through-hole D9 cm is made in the center.

In each of the four rectangular blanks of 1x1.5 mm in size, holes D5 mm are made.

On the long side of the rectangle measuring 12x10.2 cm, retreating from the edge by 1.2 cm, make two holes D12 mm, maintaining a distance between them of 7 cm.

Housing assembly sequence
To assemble the structure, square billets of 10.2x10.2 centimeters are glued to the side edges of the rectangle 10.2x12 cm

A square billet with a 9 cm drilled hole is installed inside the case. After that, the last rectangular part is attached, closing the structure case. At the final stage glued legs.

Installation of heating elements

In the role of the heating element will be a spring stretched between two copper rods.To determine whether the spring is suitable, you must connect it to a 12-volt power source and measure it with a multimeter.

So to create a warm flow is enough, if the readings of the multimeter will be 2.5 Ampere. With these parameters, when powered at 12 volts, about 30 watts of heat will be generated.

The selected spring is soldered to copper rods, the ends of which are fixed to workpieces of 1x1.5 cm in size. The assembled structure is glued to the corners of the case. Solder the “tails” of the electric cable to the ends of the rods. After this, the hole plate is attached.

Connecting the cooler and LED strip
To connect the cooler, the ends of the LED strip are soldered to the veins with blue and red braid, and then they are pulled out through a 5 mm diameter hole

Having fixed the cooler inside the case, the same manipulations are carried out with a rheostat, a switch and a power connector.

If all the structural elements are connected correctly, then when the rheostat is turned on, the blue light on the LED strip will light up. When the switch is turned on, the LED strip will acquire a red tint that will create a purple color against the background of the main blue. After that, the heater spring will begin to heat up.

The main condition of the device is that the spring only works when the cooler is on; otherwise it just blows out

The assembled structure from the outside can only be sanded and treated with wood wax, or varnished in 2-3 layers. Due to its presentable appearance, such a heater can be safely used not only for heating the garage, but also for arranging living rooms.
